The Carlton Blues held on against a spirited Essendon challenge at the MCG to win 11.12 (78) to 11.4 (70). After a slow start, Carlton surged in the first quarter and then repelled several late surges from the Bombers.
Adam Cerra and Jack Crisp led the Blues early, while Essendon’s Jake Stringer fought hard to pull them back. But Carlton’s defence held firm in the final minutes to secure the win in front of 74,280 fans.
